Gogo is a Bantu language (Guthrie G11) spoken in central Tanzania around Dodoma.
Alexandre (1981) notes 350,000 speakers of Gogo, while Grimes (1996) cites a figure of 300,000. Voegelin and Voegelin list 330,000 speakers, including the dialect of Kagulu, which Nurse (personal communication, 1985) states is not a dialect of Gogo (Ethnologue [Grimes 1996] also lists Kagulu as a separate language with 217,000 speakers, but states that it has 56 percent lexical similarity with Gogo).
Gogo is a local language.
Gogo has a Romanized orthography, although its status is unknown as of this writing.
