Suppire/Minianka, spoken in southeastern Mali, belongs to the Northern Senufo subgroup of Gur Voltaic.
Grime (1996) reports 923,000 speakers of Susu and 187,800 speakers of Yalunka. Platiel (1978) gives a total of 505,000 Susu speakers and 113,000 Yalunka speakers. Voegelin and Voegelin (1977) give a combined total of 392,000, and Houis (1981) reports 550,000.
Susu is an important regional language of northern Sierra Leone and western Guinea (coastal region).
No information concerning the orthographic status of Susu has come to our attention.
One set of materials appears to be sufficient.
