Outreach
Established in 1977 the MSU Outreach Program has become a nationally-recognized leader in outreach among National Resource Centers for Area Studies and Foreign Languages. We currently serve faculty and students in many community and four-year colleges and universities, as well as teacher educators, K-12 teachers and students, media producers and users, students seeking to study in Africa, the business community, civic and religious organizations, state and federal agencies, and the general public.
National Recognition for MSU international outreach and teacher education
On November 16, 2004 MSU was awarded the prestigious Goldman Sach Prize for International Education-Higher Education Division. The Goldman Sachs prize, with its $25,000 award, specifically recognized MSU's National Resource Centers for their outreach initiatives to educators and students through a variety of innovative web-based curricular materials for K-12 educators and students. In addition, the Goldman Sach's award jury highlighted the collaboration of MSU's College of Education and MSU's international and area studies centers in internationalizing pre-service teacher education through the infusion of area and international content into a required undergraduate teacher education course and through five study abroad programs for teacher education students in Africa, Australia, and Europe.
