Biography: Christopher C. Daniel is the Director for International Health and Safety at Michigan State University (MSU). In this role he oversees international preparedness and response working with a broad range of university partners and stakeholders to help keep MSU travelers abroad safe and healthy.

Chris comes from Daniel Consulting, which he started to provide specialized humanitarian, emergency management and business development services for nonprofits, government and business. At Daniel Consulting, Chris conducted safety and security assessments and training for humanitarian responders in Central African Republic, Chad and Mali and assisted with Ebola Virus Disease response strategy and preparedness programs for US based nonprofit organizations working in West Africa. He and other Daniel Consulting members worked regularly on domestic emergency preparedness projects with US Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and the RI Association of Emergency Managers.

Over the past 20 years, Chris has worked globally coordinating with NGOs, governments and multi-lateral organizations designing and leading public service and humanitarian programs. Chris served as Vice President for the Providence based Safer Institute, a leader in emergency management technology solutions, and Chief Operating Officer for World Connect, an NGO dedicated to grass roots development in developing countries working in partnership with the US Peace Corps. Chris also worked for the Center for Emergency Preparedness and Response at the RI Department of Health where he served on the State’s Incident Management Team and oversaw the Strategic National Stockpile and RI Responds medical readiness programs for the US Department of Health and Human Services. Chris began his career in the Peace Corps in Cameroon and has worked throughout Africa, Latin America and Caribbean for Catholic Relief Services.

Chris holds a BA in communications from the University of San Diego and an MA in International Environmental Policy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. He is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) by the International Association of Emergency Managers and extensively trained in the National Incident Management System (NIMS). His language skills include French, Spanish and Haitian Creole. He serves as a board director for The Lafondbelle Foundation, a Haiti-based and Haitian-led community development organization, and is an associate partner at Social Enterprise Greenhouse where he has mentored numerous start-up companies.
