Biography: Maureen Handrahan is the Coordinator for International Health and Safety at Michigan State University (MSU). In this position she oversees operational management of international health and safety matters with a primary focus on education abroad.

She comes to MSU with a background in both international security and higher education. She conducted counter-terrorism research for the Sié Chéou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy in Denver, CO, served as the Women in Security Editor at the NATO Council of Canada, and worked on United Nations Development Programme project evaluation reports as a research analyst for Sylvagro International Trade and Development Consulting. She also held higher education administration positions at McGill University International Student Services and McGill University Campus Life & Engagement.

Maureen has a longstanding interest in international travel, having traveled to Egypt on an education abroad program and having conducted community development work in Kenya. She speaks French and is experienced working in bilingual environments.

Maureen holds a BA in International Development, Political Science, and African Studies from McGill University and an MA in International Security from the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies.
