FALL 2004 NEWSLETTER

Fall 2004

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

The Scholarship Committee granted two scholarships for Fall 2004 from the cash donations and the sale of items donated to the Global Festival’s World Gift Shop. The recipients were Vida Wilmot from Ghana, majoring in literacy instruction, and Yue Wang from the People’s Republic of China, majoring in statistics.

Applications for Spring 2005 scholarships are available in the Office for International Students and Scholars, Room 101, International Center. The scholarships are for three credit hours; spouses who meet ALL of the requirements listed on the application form are encouraged to apply. The deadline for submitting applications is November 30, 2004.

The committee has become very active during the past month. Solicitation letters for items to sell at the World Gift Shop have been sent. Although we have received occasional contributions during the year, we are hopeful for a positive response from our mailing. Please contribute items and remind others of our need for funds for scholarships. Indicate to them that with their signed itemized receipt, their donations are tax deductible.

The committee needs volunteers for collecting, cleaning, sorting, pricing, packing, unpacking, and selling the items. The work has already begun and more volunteers are needed immediately. We need over fifty volunteers; however, most will be needed at the Gift Shop on the day of the Global Festival. Please contact Lois Sollenberger (349-1862 or hsolly@msu.edu) or Lillian Kumata (351-6046 or kumata@msu.edu) to volunteer or to offer suggestions. We would appreciate your help.

The committee appreciates cash donations for this worthwhile cause. Donations are, of course, tax deductible. Please make checks payable to Michigan State University (with a notation that the funds are for CVIP Scholarships) and send to the CVIP Office in the International Center, Room 12C, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824.
