FALL 2005 NEWSLETTER

Fall 2005

CVIP Wants You!

Although the Membership Committee can report that CVIP’s ranks have increased by more than 80 new members this year, over 70 of these were recruited by one committee, the newly reorganized Friendship Family Pro-gram.  We have lost a number of other members owing to retirement, ill health, and relocation, so CVIP is currently seeking volunteers for four specific committees.

Global Festival Gift Shop

“The GLOBAL FESTIVAL is November 13th, right around the corner!  We can use all the help we can get in the Gift Shop.  If you’re interested please contact Lillian Kumata (kumata@msu. edu or 351 6046).  The shifts are 11:30-1:30, 1:30-3:30 or 3:30-5:30.  Please help out; CVIP really needs volunteers in the Gift Shop.”

The Lending Center

“Yes, we do need workers at the LENDING CENTER. Specifically we need men and/or women who can work for one hour on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m., just one Thursday a month.  We like to have two people there every time the door is open.” You can contact Erika Larson at enwank@yahho.com for details.

Every Tuesday

“For ET (EVERY TUESDAY) we need volunteers to help watch the pre-school aged children and plan activities for them.  There are about 15 youngsters that range in age from one to five years old.  Not all of them speak English.  We meet three Tuesdays a month from 1-3 p.m.  We do not meet on the second Tuesday of the month.

ET also welcomes women who would like to have weekly contact with international spouses.  ET emphasizes friendship and fun while participating in mutually enjoyable activities.”  You can contact Tammy Williams at 346-9977 or tammy@ oasismsu.org.

Friendship Family Program

“The main thing the FRIENDSHIP FAMILY program could use is help at the orientations or group functions.  We need people who are willing to sit at a registration desk or help set up the reception food and drinks.  This would involve about three or four afternoons a year.

Also, if someone is able to help  recruit for Friendship Families and/or students, it would be great to have some extra help throughout the year.”  You can contact Iris Horner at hornerio@ yahoo.com.

The Membership Committee recruits new members and assists in placing them in the appropriate CVIP groups and committees. If you would like to join, email or call Joan Otto (jojo638@ comcast.net or 203-0898) or Lillian Kumata (kumata@msu. edu or 351 6046).  You may also fill out an application on the CVIP website (www.isp.msu.edu/cvip).  Go to the “Office/Membership” section and click on the “APPLY” button at the bottom of the page.
