Couples Supper Club

The Couples Supper Club is organizing for the '05-'06 academic year. Currently, ten sub-groups have formed, which is a total of approximately 70-80 individuals planning to participate in this dinner activity. We still need a few more international couples, but we are expecting to finalize groups very soon. We have quite a few new American host couples this year and are pleased to see so many participants from the 7th floor of Wells Hall. Approximately 17% of our hosts and hostesses are from the English Language Center and the Linguistics Department!

The success of each sub-group depends on the time, effort and perseverance of its members. With everyone's busy lives, sometimes it is difficult to find a suitable date. Be creative! Find a way to make this social event happen for your group. Some groups in the past have decided to do a brunch instead of a dinner. Some groups have had to postpone their "fall" dinner until January because of too many conflicts around the holiday time. Do what works for your group. The point is this: this should not be an overwhelming commitment for anyone. Look for a little time (maybe 3 hours) once a semester to have a relaxing get-together to show some hospitality and increase your understanding of other cultures.

The Couples Supper Club consists of American couples and international student couples en-rolled at MSU who meet in groups of eight for a potluck supper and conversation in an American home each semester. If you are interested, call co-coordinators Emily Ow (337-7946) or Dottie Schmidt (351-2812).
