Spring 2005 NEWSLETTER

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

Spring 2005

The Global Festival’s World Gift Shop was a terrific success. Receipts exceeded $6,700 for the items donated by eighty contributors. There were over twenty new donors. Volunteers helped collect, sort, price, pack, transport, display, and sell the items. The committee is grateful to both the contributors and volunteers who provide the assistance the Scholarship Committee needs to continue its grants to spouses of international students.

The Scholarship Committee granted one scholarship for Spring Semester 2005 from the cash donations and the sale of items donated to the World Gift Shop. The recipient was Xuyan Shi from the People’s Republic of China, who is in the Masters degree program in Statistics.

Applications for Fall Semester 2005 scholarships are available in the Office for International Students and Scholars, Room 101, International Center. The deadline for submission of appli-cations is April l. Spouses who meet ALL of the requirements listed on the form are encouraged to apply. For clarification of these requirements, please contact Lillian Kumata (351-6046).

The committee also appreciates cash donations for our worthwhile cause. In addition to the $6,700 raised from the sale of items at the World Gift Shop, we received another almost $2,000 in monetary gifts. Donations are, of course, tax deductible. Please make checks payable to Michigan State University (with a notation that the funds are for CVIP Scholarships) and send to the attention of Lois Sollenberger at the CVIP Office in the International Center, Room 12C, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824.
