Assessment Tools and Resources: Student learning and program design

Date: Wednesday, 13 Mar 2013 Time: 11:30 am to 1:00 pm Location: MSU Union - Parlor Room A

Description

An overseas learning environment can enrich the curricular content in many ways and MSU program leaders formulate goals that incorporate co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. How can you measure the effectiveness of your program design and intended larger goals? How can you navigate the myriad (over 85) of intercultural competence assessment tools to find something feasible for your program and your purposes? This session is a call to faculty program leaders and others interested in assessing student learning and program design. Presenters will focus on MSU and the national use of 3 key instruments: Global Perspectives Inventory (GPI), the Beliefs, Events, Values Inventory (BEVI), and the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). Concrete examples of research design will be shared and the benefits and challenges of each instrument discussed.
