Mohammed Ayoobis University Distinguished Professor of International Relations in James Madison College with a joint appointment in the Department of Political Science.  He has also served as Coordinator of the Muslim Studies Program at MSU.  A specialist on conflict and security in the Third World and the intersection of religion and politics in the Muslim world, he has authored, co-authored, or edited 14 books and published over 90 research papers and scholarly articles in leading journals such as World Politics, International Studies Quarterly, International Journal of Human Rights, and many others.  His latest books are titled The Many Faces of Political Islam and Religion and Politics in Saudi Arabia.  His edited volume Assessing the War on Terror will be published later this year. His commentaries on world affairs have been published in the Guardian, on the websites of Foreign Policy and CNN, and in many other venues. His latest scholarly articles include "Beyond the Democratic Wave: A Turko-Persian Future?", “The Arab Spring: Its Geostrategic Significance” and “Making Sense of Global Tensions: Dominant and Subaltern Conceptions of Order and Justice in the International System.”
