International Projects

The internationalization of Michigan State University began in the early 1950's with its involvement in several development assistance programs and projects. Since then, MSU has been one of the most active universities in the United States in managing development assistance, institution building and applied research projects overseas. These efforts are in the land-grant tradition and have provided tangible benefits to the countries and societies in which they operate. They have also provided an avenue for faculty to work and do research in overseas sites. These overseas experiences serve to enrich faculty on-campus scholarship, teaching, and outreach efforts. In addition to international programs being funded overseas, MSU's faculty have also been very successful in obtaining external funding to support their research activities on campus.

Research and Development Projects

To assist faculty and graduate students interested in participating in international research and development projects, MSU created the Office of International Development (OID) in January 2000. Housed within International Studies and Programs, OID's primary focus is to facilitate collaborative international research efforts and develop multi-disciplinary projects. Since its inception, OID has worked with faculty members and graduate students across campus to help advance MSU as a leader in collaborative international development activities.

The website for OID includes a listing and descriptions of a small sample of MSU's current international activity, information on MSU's strengths and areas of faculty involvement, and contact information for OID.
