Funding and Grants

Student Funding

Michigan State University awards grants to students who excel in academic achievement and are pursuing an education with international specialization or enhanced international experiences.

Faculty Funding

Michigan State University awards grants to members of our faculty who are advancing international scholarship, teaching, public service, and outreach. Awards are available to support travel, faculty exchanges and research efforts.

Title VI Programs

Michigan State University has five centers funded through the U.S. Department of Education, International Education Programs Service. This funding helps support MSU programs that:

• Teach modern foreign languages, especially the less and least commonly taught languages.
• Offer disciplinary instruction to provide a thorough understanding of areas where these languages are used.
• Offer disciplinary instruction in international studies.
• Provide support for internationalizing professional programs, including language study.
• Support and disseminate center-related research.
• Provide curricular and instructional materials for K-16 educators.

Fulbright Programs

The Fulbright Program was conceived as a vehicle for promoting "mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries of the world. Fulbright grants are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools. Participants are chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential—with the opportunity to exchange ideas and to contribute to finding solutions to shared issues.

International Awards

The International Awards Ceremony is hosted each spring by the Dean of International Studies and Programs. The purpose is to bring together MSU faculty, staff, students, community volunteers and others from the wider community to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions toward international understanding.
