How to Apply

Proposals should:

  • Provide evidence of the involvement of faculty from more than one discipline who actively participated in jointly planning the proposed GATI activity (student involvement also is encouraged).
  • Come with or have excellent promise of eliciting matching funds from external sources. Faculty will have access to grantwriting and budget preparation assistance for external funding for multi-disciplinary proposals.
  • Demonstrate matching funds from other campus units, equivalent to at least 20% of the proposed GATI budget. Matching funds must be obtained from faculty members’ departments or colleges.
  • Identify specific outcomes and results which can be expected within the grant period.
  • Propose activities that have the potential of building a research and training node at MSU that already is, or can readily become, prominent nationally or internationally.
  • Budget requests for GATI funds should not exceed $20,000 per year. Projects are eligible for up to three years of funding which may be requested in the initial proposal.

Faculty are invited to contact directors of the sponsoring units to discuss proposal ideas.
