Global Encounters: Framing MSU's Global Engagement for the 21st Century
Introducing Global Encounters
The Global Encounter process has endeavored to identify strategic countries/regions, partners, and programmatic themes where the university can have transformational impacts in the decades ahead.
There have to date been four Global Encounters. Each one has been highly interactive and participatory, bringing together colleagues from wide-ranging educational units who share similar country/regional or programmatic interests. Global Encounters have been structured around broad themes designed to encompass the vast array of interests at MSU, such as environment, technology, and people; political economy, commerce, and global relations. The Regional Global Encounters have expanded to include cultural hybridizations: interdisciplinary approaches to ethnicity, race, class, gender, age, language, literature and national identity ; bioeconomy and development; and health and educational disparities.
This site contains archival information about all four Global Encounters, and will provide information about future Global Encounters as it becomes available.
