Biography: Dr. Anthony (Tony) Ogden leads MSU’s Office of Study Abroad and provides strategic leadership to the university as MSU seeks to build upon its legacy of excellence in education abroad and international exchange. A career international educator, he is a national leader in education abroad and exchanges, widely respected for his knowledge of research and scholarship, program design and development and outcomes assessment.

Ogden earned his bachelor’s degree from Berea College, a master’s degree in international and intercultural management at the SIT Graduate Institute and his Ph.D. at The Pennsylvania State University in educational theory and policy with a dual title in comparative and international education.

Prior to MSU, Tony was the executive director of education abroad and exchanges in his home of state of Kentucky at the University of Kentucky, where he provided oversight in the administration of all education abroad and exchange programming for the university. Under his leadership, participation nearly tripled and student participation became more representative of the student body than ever before. He successfully transitioned the education abroad office from having a budget loss to a revenue-generating unit with a budget surplus.

Tony has also served in education abroad leadership positions at The Pennsylvania State University and in Japan, as the director of the Tokyo Center of the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES).

He has numerous publications to his credit, including the new book, “International higher education’s scholar-practitioners: Bridging research and practice.” He also recently published a new monograph with the Association of International Education Administrators that attempts to establish a research agenda for education abroad. Ogden serves as an adjunct professor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in their International Education Management graduate program.
