Immigration has been at the center of a wide range of policy discussions including homeland security, economic and work force development as well as education benefits, health coverage, and driver privileges extended to visitors filling temporary jobs. The Institute for Public Policy and Social Research's (IPPSR) May 31st policy forum will look at the impact of more recent discussions of immigration and Michigan's stance on foreign visitors and immigrants to our State. Particular attention will be on Asian immigrants given that recruitment for IT and tech jobs are mostly conducted among this immigrant group and are said to be most affected by visa reforms.

The panelists will be:

-Stephanie Nawyn, Associate Professor, MSU's Department of Sociology and Director of the Center for Gender in Global Context

-Christine Bargerstock, Associate Director, Office of International Students and Scholars, MSU International Studies and Programs

-Karen Phillippi, Deputy Director, Michigan Office for New Americans

-Bing Goei, Director, Michigan Office for New Americans

This forum will be held at the Anderson House Office Building, Mackinac Room, 5th Floor, 124 N. Capitol Avenue (corner of Ottawa and Capitol Avenues), in Lansing, MI. There is no charge to attend.
