"Toxic Stress, Socio-emotional Adjustment and Quality of Life in HIV-affected and Unaffected School-aged children from Uganda"

This presentation specifically examines socio-emotional development and its variation by HIV-status and levels of toxic stress in Ugandan school-aged children and their caregivers. The empirical goal is to determine whether HIV-affected children experience age appropriate development and have comparable quality of life relative to HIV-uninfected children.

Amara Ezeamama holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Brown University. She completed postdoctoral training at Harvard School of Public Health where her research explored the impact of nutritional deficiencies on immune recovery and adverse clinical outcomes among Ugandan adults with HIV/AIDS. She is now an Assistant Professor in the Research Division of Psychiatry Department at Michigan State University. Her ongoing research aims to identify- and eventually mitigate - modifiable determinants of functional deficits among HIV-affected persons in the era of multi-decade survival with chronic HIV infection.
