The annual University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF) provides Michigan State undergraduate students with an opportunity to showcase their scholarship and creative activity. Held each spring in the MSU Union, UURAF brings together an intellectual community of highly motivated students to share their work with faculty, peers, and external audiences. UURAF provides a unique educational opportunity for aspiring researchers. MSU undergraduates gain experience in presenting their research, answer questions about their work from audience members and guests, and receive constructive feedback from judges.

GeCen 2018 Colloquia Series presents "Avatars for Empowerment: The real potential of virtual selves" with Professor Rabindra Ratan

Did you know that avatars offer a secret weapon that can be used to help reduce real-world social inequities? This talk addresses this questions, examining recent theory and research on the psychological experience and effects of avatar use. 

Rabindra (Robby) Ratan is Assistant Professor and AT&T Scholar at MSU's Department of Media & Information, and is also affiliated with MSU's Department of Psychology as well as MSU's College of Education's program in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology. His research focuses on psychological experiences of media use, with an emphasis on interactive environments (e.g., virtual worlds, videogames, the road) that include mediated self-representations (e.g., avatars, cars).

The Office of International Health and Safety offers "Critical Incident Management Seminars" several times per year. Program Directors and Assistants who have not completed this seminar within the last two years must attend a seminar in advance of their program's departure.

We encourage all Program Directors and Assistants to take advantage of this valuable opportunity. The goals of this seminar are to assist in: preventing foreseeable harm; preparing for critical incidents on education abroad programs by providing information, tools, and resources; responding to the needs of students; implementing recommendations for enhancing health, safety, and security on education abroad programs; and, understanding Program Director responsibilities.
