Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) has been
selected a national resource center in international business education
by the U.S. Department of Education. CIBER, a unit of The Eli Broad College
of Business, was praised as an exemplary resource and assistance center
by independent evaluators in a national competition that included the nation's
best business schools.
The designation is part of the federal government's CIBER program. It includes a grant to MSU of approximately $1 million over the next three years. These funds will be used for internationalizing faculty, curriculum, and student programs, as well as for facilitating Michigan companies' international market development efforts.
"We are delighted with the federal government's decision to continue to invest in MSU's CIBER program," said James B. Henry, dean of the Broad College of Business. "Our CIBER has established an enviable leadership position over the past nine years." Independent reviews have established MSU as an innovative resource center with a significant impact on the globalization of business education and business practice. "We are consistently ranked at the very top of CIBERs along with prestigious schools like Columbia, Texas, and UCLA," said Henry. |

| Title VI Centers | ||||||
Michigan State University houses a unique
combination of research centers receiving funding through Title VI of the
U.S. Higher Education Act that are important to the university's global
mission. Of these centers, four are National Resource Centers (NRC) in area
and thematic studies, one is a Language Resource Center (LRC), and one is
a Center for International Business Education (CIBER). All Title VI grants
are administered by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). MSU's National
Resource Centers, which by definition must focus their energies on issues

As an LRC, MSU's Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR) is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of languages in the United States. As a CIBER, MSU's Center for Business Education and Research is dedicated to improving the flow of knowledge about international business issues. The six MSU centers receive high national rankings and significant funding from the USDE through their successful participation in regularly scheduled nationwide competitions among peer institutions. MSU has been extremely successful, obtaining five such grants for the current cycle, several of which were continuations of previous awards. Two centers, CASID and WID, are joint recipients of one of these grants. Through their Title VI funding, these six centers have been able to support several recent innovative programs such as the Global and Area Thematic Initiatives (GATI) program and a major international conference in Mérida, Mexico, organized by MSU's CLACS (see related articles in this issue). Having multiple NRCs is a prerequisite for MSU's participation in the International Predissertation Fellowship Program (see related article in this issue). For more information about MSU's centers and thematic institutes, visit their Web sites at the addresses listed on the inside back cover.
