This
edition of MSU International underscores the diversity of Michigan State
University's international programming efforts-a substantive and regional
diversity that cuts across the university's missions in instruction, research,
and outreach. A representation of this diversity also appears in the photographic
essay comprising recent winners in the MSU Global Focus international
photography competition. Highlighted in this issue are MSU's considerable
and successful study abroad program initiative, several aspects of the
university's activities in South Africa, the Thoman Fellows Program, MSU
alumni, the MSU Libraries' support for international programming, MSU's
formative partnership with the University of the Ryukyus, and survey findings
about the global awareness of Michigan residents. I hope that you enjoy
these and other features of this edition of MSU International.
