First place in the student category went to Jonathan Schulz's "Buena Vista (The Mountain One)" taken at Cocotitlan, Mexico in 2000. Click on the gallery links below to see more winners.

For a second consecutive year, International Studies and Programs and the MSU Alumni Association have teamed up to sponsor MSU Global Focus, the international photography competition for MSU students, faculty/staff, and alumni. The project, which was developed as a means of showcasing the MSU community's broad range of international activities and experiences, was highly successful in its first year, leading to its establishment as an annual event.

More than 310 valid entries were received from this year's 118 participants. The jurors, two MSU faculty members and one local studio owner, worked together to evaluate the many excellent submissions and select the winners. Old and new, slides and prints, black-and-white and color, the entries depicted scenes from around the world.

The jurors' favorites are presented in the galleries listed below for you to experience, along with the artists' names and information about their photos, the prizes, and the many gracious prize sponsors. Framed enlargements of the top winners in each category will soon be on display in the lobby of the International Center.
