Upcoming LCTL Events at MSU

  • Developing and Managing a Tutorial-based Language Program for LCTLs, August 5-6, 2002 (a component of CLEAR's Summer Workshop series). Setting curricular goals, choosing and using the best materials, tutor and learner working relationships, logistics of administering a tutorial program, designing effective student evaluation plans, selecting and planning new course offerings.
  • Summer Cooperative African Language Institute-SCALI 2002, June 19-July 22, 2002 (hosted by MSU and organized by a 13-member consortium of the nation's Title VI National Resource Centers for African Language and Area Studies, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education). Intensive work-the equivalent of one academic year of study-in Amharic, Bambara, Hausa, Igbo, Shona, Swahili, Tswana, Wolof, Yoruba, and Zulu, plus others if there is sufficient demand. SCALI is directed by Professor Deogratias Ngonyani, Department of Linguistics and Languages, and coordinated by Kuria Githiora, coordinator of the MSU-sponsored National Coordination Program for African Languages.
