Attendees:
Discussion:
- Date -- March 31, 2008
- Venue -- Baldwin Hall
- General items (see also Planners
Information):
- An informal tradition is the "night before" dinner at
a local restaurant.
- We asked for a buffet. The registration form will have a check for
special dietary needs.
- In the registration area, there should be tables for handouts and
book displays.
- Al will try to get President Randall to give the welcome and perhaps
be at the luncheon
- Registration fee: $10 for academics. Students will not have to
pay a fee. Did we decide about students paying for lunch?
- Student participation:
- Student coordinator -- Al will try to enlist a competent
student to help handle logistics
- Student introduction to session topics -- the student should
give a short (3 minute), knowledgeable, and opinionated intro.
- Background Information for the Sessions -- this year we'll experiment
by providing some online? readings for the session topics. Dennis suggested
that we incorporate connect2canada
information. We didn't determine who was going to do it.
- Attendance -- In the past, the Roundtable has averaged 30-40
academics. Students will probably boost the numbers to 90.
- Publicity --
- Mike will merge Bruce Way's mailing list into the one held at MSU.
- Dennis will provide some special publicity to the University of
Windsor and Bowling Green State University.
- Al will used the Great Lakes College Association network.
- Al will try to interest the UM Ford Policy Center
- Speakers -- Responsibility of Albion College. Some of the themes
we discussed were population diversity caused by immigration and health
policy. Dennis can help identify speakers and may be able to get targeted
funds for a speaker. Idea -- an expensive but interesting speaker
would be Gerry Boychuk of the University of Waterloo to compare health
care in the U.S. and Canada.
- Funding -- the host institution has been responsible for the
bulk of the costs but other institutions have helped out. MSU can contributed
about $1000 (pending the final form our program enhancement grant) .The
Consulate General would seriously consider a request for funding. Its
fiscal year ends on March 31.
- Session Topics
-- As in the past, these topics will be listed
on the registration form. The final selection will be based on the interest
indicated by the registrants' preferences. The registration
form will provide space for registrants to indicate aspects of the topics.
The sessions will last an hour.
