  • One graduate student position available
  • Apply by May 15

Throughout the academic year, the Office of Study Abroad coordinates workshops, seminars and group meetings to support the work of current and prospective program leaders.

In collaboration with the Office of Faculty & Organizational Development (F&OD), we offer an annual workshop series for MSU faculty, administrators and staff that is designed to provide members of the MSU community with the knowledge and skills needed for the development and execution of high quality, inclusive education abroad programs. Also with F&OD, as well as with the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education (APUE), we co-convene the Faculty Learning Community on Teaching & Learning Abroad (FLC). This group of faculty and other academic staff meets once a month during fall and spring semesters to work on projects and ideas aimed at helping study abroad program leaders develop and run well-designed programs that contribute to student success. We also collaborate with FLC members, the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS), and others on staging the annual Learning Abroad Conference, which features returned U.S. study abroad students and international students studying abroad at MSU as they share their international learning stories with the MSU community. Finally, a special program, the Doctoral Study Abroad Fellowship (DSAF), provides in-depth opportunities for students to gain theoretical and practical study abroad experience.

We seek a graduate intern for the full academic year to work with OSA's assistant director for academic relations on planning, coordinating and executing these events and meetings. The fall semester is primarily devoted to planning and implementing the Learning Abroad Conference, with some work in support of the F&OD workshop series, FLC projects, and the next year's DSAF, while the spring semester is mostly focused on FLC projects, the next year's F&OD series, and the DSAF, with some follow-up of the past Learning Abroad Conference as well as some advance planning for the next one.

While preference will be given to applicants who can intern for the entire academic year, interested students who can commit to only one of the semesters are invited to submit their applications, clearly indicating which semester they're available.
