Students will particpate in history, art history, archaeology, anthropology and psychosocial studies. They will experience traditions, contemporary life and explore other aspects of Ghanaian life. Along with field trips students will recieve lectures by facutly from the Univ. of Ghana-Legon. July 4-20, 2002

Advanced photography workshop, students must have previous photographic experience. They should be interested in documenting or producing artwork linked to the social realities of Africa. This course is not a "photo safari," a shoot of wild animals and scenery. It will consist primarily of escorted excursions (1 or more days) to cultural sites and local events specifically to take photographs.

Environmental Management and Media in Ghana. Learn about Ghana's history and culture, including the history of Ghana's connections with the USA. Observe first-hand the impact of the media in a developing democracy, including the role of the media as the voice of civil society in protecting the environment. A required half-day pre-departure class in mid to late May includes a Ghanian lunch. The 5-week program in Ghana begins with a tour of southern Ghana, followed by 4 weeks of class work and internships/special projects in Legon and Accra.

Full immersion in Swahili language & culture, for 4 weeks in the Kenyan towns of Mombasa & Lamu. This program, is designed to enhance a students understanding of the of Swahili society through a blending of coursework, homestays & field experience. July 3- August 3, 2001. Allowing for travel, students will depart NY together around July 1. Application deadline is February 1, 2001
