On Wednesday, April 3, the 2013 International Awards Ceremony was held where Marie-Christine Koop won the Joon S. Moon Distinguished International Alumini Award at MSU.
Marie-Christine Koop became a Spartan the day she was accepted into the doctoral program in French in the College of Arts and Letters.
Since then, Marie-Cristine has served countless hours promoting international understanding and exchange with a special interest in contemporary French society and culture. Social issues in France, including women’s issues, have always motivated and driven her work. As a teacher she has built bridges and understanding across the Atlantic and with our neighbors in Quebec, Canada.
Marie-Christine has also left a mark as a teacher and scholar; as an editor of cultural publications in France and in francophone Canada. She advances cultural knowledge and has impacted the lives of many students.
She is a past president of the American Association of Teachers of French, and received the association’s first National Award for Excellence in Teaching at the post-secondary level. She has been honored with the Nelson Brooks Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Culture, given by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language, and UNT’s J.H. Shelton Award for Excellence in Teaching.
She previously was named a Knight and then an Officer in the Order of Academic Palms by the French Ministry of Education. The award was established in 1866 to honor individuals who make major contributions to French national education.
Dr. Koop’s many contributions to internationalizing education and communities have placed her among MSU’s most successful and distinguished graduates. We welcome her proudly among the rank of MSU’s Joon. S. Moon Distinguished International Alumni Award recipients.
