Candlelight vigil to be held for Haiti earthquake victims

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State University will hold a candlelight vigil in support of victims of the Haiti earthquake on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Beaumont Tower.

MSU and community leaders will reflect on the circumstance and offer short prayers on behalf of the Spartan family. Students from the Caribbean Student Association will also speak and encourage solidarity with Haiti.

The vigil follows a panel discussion titled "Help Haiti Heal," which will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in MSU's International Center in room 303. The event is the first in a series of educational programs that will focus on Haiti, its culture and the challenges ahead. The lectures are hosted by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. For more information on upcoming lectures please visit the Center's web site at http://www.isp.msu.edu/CLACS/.

The vigil will be organized by the International Studies and Programs (ISP), Center for Latin American Studies, the Office of International Students and Scholars, Caribbean Student Association and other campus groups.

The event is open to the public.
