EAST LANSING, Mich. --The Fulbright Awards for 2010-2011have been awarded, with nine scholarship recipients and three alternates going to Michigan State University.

The United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently the winners of these scholarships, which will allow over 1,500 U.S. citizens to travel abroad during the 2010-2011 academic year. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international education exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and others around the world, and has operated in over 155 countries worldwide since its establishment in 1946.

Winners from MSU for Fulbright IIE:

Jessica Hagen, awarded a scholarship to Germany in English.

Marisa Rinkus, awarded a scholarship to Brazil in Fisheries and Wildlife.

Jesse Sadowsky, awarded a scholarship o Czech Republic in Plant Pathology.

Stephanie White, awarded a scholarship to Senegal for Agriculture.

Akesha Horton, awarded a scholarship to Australia for Education.

Winners from MSU for Fulbright-Hays DDRA:

Emma Trentman, awarded a scholarship to Egypt for Education.

Krista Isaacs, awarded a scholarship to Rwanda for Soil Science and Ecology.

Jill Kelly, awarded a scholarship to South Africa for History.

Lumumba Shabaka, awarded a scholarship to Cape Verde for History.

Three students have been designated as alternates, and will receive an award should a designated recipient decline their award--Phebe Kim for South Korea, Kristan Elwell for Malawi, and Jamie Thomas for Tanzania.
