Charles A. Gliozzo, Ph.D., professor emeritus of the Department of History and former director for the Office of Study Abroad, has been appointed to serve as an ambassador of PromoDoc, a European Union sponsored initiative that seeks to promote doctoral studies in member states.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Scholars in all humanities and social science disciplines from around the world as well as MSU community members with an interest in Central Eurasia will have opportunities to learn more as the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS) comes to host their annual international conference at MSU October 28-31.

EAST LANSING, Mich. Michigan State University expects to play a leading role in strengthening colleges and universities around the world through the establishment of a new multi-disciplinary institute.

Two current MSU Museum exhibits, "Workers Culture in Two Nations: South Africa and the United States" and "Lest We Forget: The Triumph Over Slavery," include significant international content.

Four MSU doctoral students have been awarded prestigious 2006-2007 Fulbright-Hays fellowships supporting six to twelve months of dissertation research activities abroad. Three of the recipients are in doctoral programs in the College of Education and the fourth is in the Department of Anthropology in the College of Social Science.

In 2003, the MSU Federal Credit Union established a $2.5 million endowment for MSU study abroad scholarships. This endowment has greatly increased available scholarship funds for MSU students studying abroad. In 2004-2005, forty-seven students were awarded scholarships to study abroad. During the week of April 14, ISP hosted four current and former ambassadors on campus for a series of events celebrating the universitys tradition of international engagement: Willard Bill A. De Pree, Riina Ruth Kionka, Roger A. Meece, and Thomas G. Weston. All four have Michigan connections and three are MSU alumni.
