Folke B. Lindahl received the MSU Award for Outstanding Service to Study Abroad. Lindahl is a professor of Political Science in James Madison College and is noted for pioneering and leading the James Madison Caribbean Program for more than 20 years and influencing students through his profound knowledge and understanding of Political Science.

Phil Gardner and Linda Gross received the MSU Award for Outstanding Service to Study Abroad. Phillip and Linda, together have contributed to students’ global, personal and professional development through a program that promotes student reflection of study abroad experiences. This has not only helped to train other professionals in the field but has also enhanced MSU’s reputation as a leader in study abroad.

Over the past decade Brazil has experienced unprecedented economic growth and business expansion by providing 100,000 scholarships for its best students to study abroad at the world’s top universities.

On Wednesday, March 21 the 2012 International Awards Ceremony was held where Richard Bellon won an Award for Outstanding Service to MSU Study Abroad.

In an effort to boost medical research and enhance global health care training, Michigan State University is creating new strategic partnerships with colleges and teaching hospitals in South Africa and the Dominican Republic.

The initiative, led by Reza Nassiri, professor and acting director of MSU’s Institute of International Health, will include faculty and student exchanges and may eventually expand collaborations in clinical research projects.

At Michigan State University, researchers in the field of rehabilitation counseling want to know how technology can make a difference for those with intellectual disabilities.

Last fall, MSU co-hosted an international conference on the topic in Ireland and announced that it would join an interdisciplinary research team to study the issue

Previously thought extinct in Nicaragua, a small Baird’s Tapir population was recently found to be alive and well and living in the Caribbean Coast rainforest. Thanks to MSU researchers, together with Nicaraguan colleagues from the Universidad de las Regiones Autonomas de la Costa Caribe Nicaraguense (URACCAN), important data on these tapirs—large mammals similar in shape to a pig, but with a short prehensile snout like an elephant’s-- will be passed on to those scientist
