Water is Life

Inadequate, unpredictable and contaminated water supplies for household and agricultural use currently rank among the most serious problems in eastern Africa, a problem destined to become more serious if climate change predictions are correct. The magnitude of the problem is huge: global water use is projected to increase by 50% between 1995 and 2025 while rainfall is predicted to decline appreciably in some of the most densely populated parts of the African continent.

In Tanzania, access to clean water in rural areas is especially critical. Of the approximately 33.5 million people who live in rural Tanzania, over 54% lack access to improved water sources. In Arusha region, less than 50% of households have access to improved water sources. In Naitolia, community members stated that water is the first and most pressing need - "everything else depends on water." Yet the closest source of clean water is 8 km away.

TPP is working with the Monduli District councilto bring water to Naitolia. Pipes are being laid, a storage tank constructed and a distribution system built to supply the villagers with a secure source of water for the village and the school.

TPP is working with the Lindi rural district to supply safe water to schools and the community health dispensary.
