Center for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies

Since its founding in 1964, the Center for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies has provided language education and outreach support to the mid-Michigan community through partnerships with more than 54 institutes of higher education in Europe, Russia and Eurasia.

Currently, the Center supports research and training projects in 14 countries including France, Georgia, Greece, Sweden and Turkey. Many of these are being led by one or more of the center’s 81 core and consulting faculty.

In the 2007-2008 school year, the Center provided more than $100,000 in student scholarships and faculty funding, including sponsorship of Less Commonly Taught Language courses in Kazakh, Persian, Uzbek and Turkish.

Leading research projects focus on agribusiness, water research and economic development.

Ongoing outreach projects include LATTICE (Linking All Types of Teachers to International Cross-Cultural Education), LEAP (Legislative Education And Practice program) and the Great Lakes Folk Festival.
