Objectives:
The purpose of the Global Academic Achivement Program (GAAP) is to meet the
growing worldwide demand for international academic training for young students.
These all students who encounter a competitive global learning environment in the
United States. By attending GAAP, students will be well prepared to succeed in
highly vigorous and demanding academic training in various degree programs at
Michigan State University or other higher education institutions in the U.S.
To improve academic competence, students need to improve communication skills
in English, understand current multi disciplinary, cross-cultural, and global perspectives
and issues in order to recognize, analyze, and develop solutions to various academic
challanges. Many times, development needs cannot adequately be addressed in a
homogenous environment in their home countries. VIPP was developed to bring the
expertise within MSU to bear on international academic and leadership training needs
and to develop ongoing practical links between academia and global society.
Overview:
GAAP is a non-degree, one-academic-year cetificate program, which provides a
curriculum with English language, academic and cultural components designed to meet
the needs of students who will apply for various degree programs at Michigan State
University or other U.S. higher education institutions. GAAP is designed in two tracks
--GAAP and GAAP+ Intensive English Language Training. Students will attend academic
lectures, seminars, American language courses, Global Cultural courses, English
Language courses, English Language Proficiency Preparation Courses, and various
cultural activities throughout the school year. After successfully meeting the university
requirements of English proficiency, students may take academic courses provided or
arranged by VIPP. GAAP students are required to attend at least 18 contact hours of
lectures and other instructional activities per semester. Students on the GAAP+ track
will take courses provided by the MSU English Language Center (ELC) in fall and spring
semesters. The customized setting of th courses will ensure that students are exposed
to advanced knowledge and practical experiences as well as American language and
cultural activities.
