Program Fees (Current as of Spring 2008)
Program fees cover all basic VIPP program components (cultural
training courses, standard VIPP activities, the use of VIPP
facilities and services) as well as additional VIPP events and
cultural events. Program fees also cover up to the stated number
of equivalent credit hours for university academic and language
classes as listed below. Full program fees for the entire period
of study (and the entire period of the DS2019/visa) are to be
paid in their entirety prior to or immediately upon arrival
in the U.S.
Please Note: No more than 12 credits can be used in any particular
semester.
Housing Costs
On-campus one and two-bedroom apartments cost ~$659-$875
per month (including utilities). Off-campus one and two-bedroom
apartments cost ~$750-$1,050 per month (NOT including utilities).
Transportation
VIPP will provide free pick up at Lansing Airport for new
program participants and their families upon their first arrival.
If new participants wish, they may contact various taxi and
limousine companies for service between Detroit and MSU or
Chicago and MSU. We estimate that the costs will be about
$180 one-way in the case of Detroit and about $400 one-way
in the case of Chicago.
Insurance
To fulfill U.S. Immigration and Naturalization (INS) requirements,
all participants are required by law to have adequate health
insurance during their entire period of residence in the U.S.
All VIPP participants and all their family members must be
enrolled in the MSU insurance plan unless they provide proof
that they have bought comparable insurance from their home
country, which fulfills the INS waiver guidelines. A copy
of the current waiver guidelines may be requested from the
VIPP office.
