1. Academic Courses

GSEP students may be able to enroll in university courses as non-degree seeking individuals if they meet the English language proficiency requirements for each department.

The requirements are a score of 80 or higher on the ELC Placement test, or a score of 550 on the TOEFL test. Many undergraduate and graduate courses are available during the fall and spring semesters (a smaller number of courses are available during the summer semester). Students are able to choose courses that best suit their academic needs. Please note that considerations such as class size may limit the availability of courses

2. English Language Programs

The GSEP Program coordinates with the MSU English Language Center (ELC) and English Language and Culture Center (ELCC) at Lansing Community College to provide professionals with intensive language training in American English in a formal classroom setting. English language training generally prepares VIPP members for enrollment in academic courses; however, courses can also be tailored to meet the specific goals and needs of VIPP fellows.

3. Cultural Enrichment Opportunities

VIPP organizes many educational cultural outings, including field trips to museums, the theater, sporting events, and other local activities. In addition, the Home Hospitality Program, sponsored by Community Volunteers for International Programs, gives VIPP participants an opportunity to visit the homes of typical American families to experience American family life first-hand.
