Anantanand Rambachan is Professor of Religion at Saint Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, where he has been teaching since 1985. He is currently an advisor to the Pluralism Project (Harvard University), a member of the International Advisory Council for the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, a member of the Theological Education Committee of the American Academy of Religion, and a Trustee of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions.
This lecture will explore various models and qualifications for religious leadership in the Hindu community, especially in the roles of teachers and ritual specialists. Professor Rambachan will also discuss leadership-related challenges facing the Hindu community now, including issues of caste, gender, training, and transmission of tradition.
