Michigan State University Department of Educational Administration and the Mildred B. Erickson Distinguished Chair in Higher, Adult & Lifelong Education together announce a symposium to address the need for study abroad programming for graduate students.

The Erickson Global View Symposium, Globalizing Graduate Education: The Role of Study Abroad, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  on Feb. 27at the MSU Union. The symposium is for anyone interested in developing graduate study abroad programs, including graduate school deans, study abroad administrators, administrators and faculty within professional schools and departments, researchers, and graduate students.

The symposium keynote speaker, Brian Whalen, president and CEO of the Forum on Education Abroad, will discuss the trends in the internalization of higher education and emphasize the specific role of study abroad for graduate students who seek these opportunities for research, networking, and other professional development outcomes.

Based on a collaborative study by the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), a consortium of Big Ten universities, and New York University, this symposium will explore the key questions and issues that need to be addressed in developing, administrating, facilitating, and assessing study abroad programs in professional and graduate education.

MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon will participate in a special welcome at the symposium, highlighting MSU's growth in study abroad opportunities and the need for similar prospects for graduate students.
