On Wednesday, April 3, the 2012 International Awards Ceremony was held where Rebecca A. Malouin won the John K. Hudzik Emerging Leader Award for Advancing International Studies and Programs at MSU.

Rebecca Malouin's dedication to international outreach and learning was demonstrated early in her career as a Peace Corps volunteer. Following her service with the Peace Corps in Niger, she completed both a master's degree in public health and a doctorate in the department of International Health at John Hopkins University. Today, Rebecca is helping to advance international programming in MSU's College of Human Medicine as an assistant professor of Family Medicine and Pediatric and Human Development.

As a young scholar Rebecca has created partnerships with other health professionals in Asia and Africa and developed work to address the research needs of Malawi's health system.

Despite her demanding duties Rebecca generously supports students and distinguishes herself as an advocate for their achievement. For example, through mentorship and teaching she inspires and enables students to present their work at national conferences. She also serves on international award committees to ensure recognition of outstanding student performance. These activities make Rebecca an outstanding role model for other young scholars.

Additionally, Rebecca serves on the advisory board for African and Canadian Studies Centers in International Studies and Programs. Her research often takes a focus on comparative health policy and health systems. Her enthusiasm and energy helped the Canadian Studies Center build cross-border faculty engagements with research partners in Ontario. This project advanced research agendas in health and Rebecca's leadership enabled students to participate in the project.

With a dedication to primary care and international health, commitment to build global collaborations and an innate ability to inspire students, Rebecca's contributions have strengthened global health programs at Michgan State University. We are proud to present the John K. Hudzik Emerging Leaders Award to Dr. Rebecca Malouin.
