EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Those interested in art or aiding in the quest for global change can have an opportunity to pursue both at an Art Exhibit and Auction for Haiti Medical Relief Sunday April 25.
Put on by students in the International Students Association and Kazakh Students Association as well as the Office of International Students and Scholars, the event is open to all MSU and Greater Lansing area community members and will offer a silent auction on artwork from both student and local artists. All proceeds will go to medical relief in Haiti.
Up for auction will be pieces reflecting Haiti as well as local Lansing area neighborhoods, while live music and refreshments accompany the event held in the MSU Union Parlor rooms A, B, and C from 1-5 p.m.
With a presentation from David L. Smith, the president of a charity school in Haiti, and Patrice Balthaza an earthquake survivor telling his story, the event will be a tool to highlight how much work can still be done in the recovering island nation.
Event coordinator and physiology major Nafissa Yakubova realized the opportunity to plan the art exhibit and auction.
"Since I can't go there myself and I have a lot of friends who are artists, I saw this as a chance to help from here with the resources I do have," Yakubova said.
Artists interested in donating works to the auction or those interested in more information can contact Nafissa at yakubova@msu.edu or visit www.msu.edu/~yakubova
