ISP Announces Internship Award Program
Published: Wednesday, 08 Feb 2006
ISP Acting Dean Jeffrey Riedinger recently announced the ISP Department of State Internship Award Program, which will provide stipends for MSU students participating in relevant internships. Only MSU students who have been accepted for summer 2006 State Department internships are eligible to apply. The awards were made possible by Ambassador Roger Meece and retired Ambassador Bill De Pree, who participated in the ISP Sesquicentennial panel discussion event last spring.
"The objectives of the internship program are to encourage students to consider careers in foreign affairs, to provide students with valuable work experience in agencies, and to aid the Department of State in achieving its mission of administering U.S. foreign policy and maintaining diplomatic relations throughout the world."
Application Information: Student applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2006, to Dr. Charles Gliozzo, 209 International Center.
Application materials must include: 1) An official document from the Department of State certifying applicant has been approved for a summer 2006 internship either in the U.S. or in Embassies and Consulates overseas. Information should include location, duration of the internship, type of internship, and whether the internship is paid or unpaid. 2) A Curriculum Vitae. 3) A transcript of the applicant's academic record at MSU. 4) A one-page, single-spaced essay emphasizing any special academic accomplishments and career objectives, and what you expect to gain from the internship. Awarding of Stipends: A selection committee of three to five MSU faculty members and staff will award stipends based upon interviews with the applicants and a review of the completed applications. The number and amount of stipends will depend on internship location, duration of internship, type of internship, and financial need.
Deadline for applications for summer awards is March 1, 2006. Students who are interested in further information should visit www.careers.state.gov and contact their internship college coordinators. For further information, the ISP contact person is Dr. Charles Gliozzo, gliozzo@msu.edu or 353-5589.
