About ISP

The Michigan State University Office of International Studies and Programs (ISP) is a university-level office, headed by a dean, that supports and encourages international activities throughout the institution. ISP units are:

  • resource centers for foreign language, international and global studies
  • avenues for MSU faculty, students, staff and their partners to collaborate in research and outreach to address critical global issues of state-wide and national importance
  • sources of programming for K-16 students and teachers, lifelong learners and Michigan businesses

For an overview of International Studies and Programs, download our brochure or visit our publication page for copies of our latest materials.

The ISP Team

Within ISP are offices with responsibility for study abroad, international students and scholars, international development activities and Peace Corps recruiting, as well as area studies centers focusing on Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe and Russia and Latin America and the Caribbean. ISP also has strong ties to thematic international units across the campus focusing on international aspects of agriculture, business, education, engineering, gender, health and languages.

In addition, the ISP Dean consults with an Advisory-Consultative Committee, a structure that is part of MSU's academic governance, on topics ranging from study abroad programs, foreign student affairs and exchange relationships with foreign institutions to international comparative and area studies, international contractual projects and other relationships. The committee serves as the principal channel of communication at the policy level between ISP, faculty and students.

ISP Work

ISP is actively involved in outreach activities and field research with schools, government offices, businesses and non-governmental organizations around the globe. Additionally, ISP offers a number of free web-based resources to support learning activities for students, educators and the wider public.
