The Erickson Global View Symposium
Date: Wednesday, 27 Feb 2013 Time: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Location: MSU Union
Description
American universities need to do more to ensure their graduate students are developing international perspectives and the ability to work in diverse settings. To help address this need, many graduate programs, especially in the professions, are turning to study abroad programs. Unlike undergraduate study abroad, however, in which emphasis is often placed on cultural and personal experiences, graduate students who study abroad seek opportunities for research, networking, and other professional development outcomes. Despite the rapid growth of such programs, however, integrating study abroad effectively into graduate education remains a challenge for many universities and graduate programs.
Based on a collaborative study of universities associated with the CIC (Big 10) and New York University, this symposium will explore key questions and issues that need to be addressed in developing, administering, facilitating, and assessing study abroad programs in professional and graduate education. The symposium’s focus will be of interest to all involved in or considering development of graduate study abroad, including graduate school deans, study abroad administrators, administrators and faculty within professional schools and departments, researchers, and graduate students.
