Detroit Theatre Festival

Date: Friday, 11 Jan 2013 Time: 7:00 pm to 8:40 pm Location: The Detroit Film Theatre

Description

Frank Pahl and Little Bang Theory join Ichiro Kataoka, (a traditional Japanese benshi, or silent film narrator), to provide live musical accompaniment and commentary for a special performance of an early film by Japan's great Yasujiro Ozo.  I Was Born, But...is a cheerfully jaunty yet bittersweet portrait of the financial and psychological trials of one family as told from the mischievous point of view of a pair of stubborn little boys.  For the two brothers, the daily struggles with bullies and mean teachers is negligible next to the mortification they feel when they unexpectedly discover that their good-natured father occupies a lower social status in society than they had realized. (100 min.)

Free with museum admission.
