Date: Thursday, 04 Apr 2013 Time: 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Location: MSU Law, Castle Board Room

Description

This symposium will analyze the current environmental issues and welfare concerns that arise out of poultry confinement. The event will address the legal, ethical, and environmental issues that arise out of both egg-laying hen operations and broiler chickens raised for meat. It seeks to foster further discussion on how to improve the quality of life of chickens while still meeting the growing population’s food demands. Discussion topics will include animal welfare, the ethics of poultry confinement, avian disease, waste management, water pollution, nutrient management, human health, and the impact of state and federal laws on poultry operations.
