Join us in Seoul for the inaugural Global JEDI Conference, where thought leaders, scholar-practitioners, and students from Michigan State University, Korea University, and Southeast Asian institutions will gather to explore innovative strategies for fostering inclusive campus environments on a global scale.

Participants will engage in plenary sessions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities to share diverse perspectives on global justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. This two-day event will include inspiring conversations and networking opportunities with peers across continents. 

Hosted by MSU's Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, Asia Hub, and International Studies and Programs in partnership with Korea University, this conference aims to foster lasting global partnerships and a shared commitment to inclusive excellence.

Date: May 15-16, 2025
Location: Korea University, Seoul, South Korea
Cost: Registration is free. Participants are responsible for their travel and lodging expenses.

The designated hotel for this conference is Somerset Palace Seoul (7 Yulgok-ro 2-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul 03143, South Korea), conveniently located within walking distance of many of Seoul’s main attractions including palaces, museums and other cultural and historical sites. Complimentary bus transportation from Somerset Palace Seoul to Korea University will be provided on the mornings of May 15 and 16.

Optional Learning Opportunity

The JEDI Conference 2025 presents an optional pre-conference cultural learning opportunity, allowing participants to immerse themselves in Korea's rich traditions and cuisine. This event will be conveniently held within walking distance of the Somerset Palace Seoul, the designated hotel.

Date and Time: May 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM (dinner included)
Cost: Approximately $50 USD
Details: Participants will engage in traditional coloring of hand fans and coasters, followed by a full-course dinner at Balwoo Gongyang, a Michelin 1-star restaurant specializing in temple food, provided by the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism.


Call for Proposals

The Global JEDI conference aims to bring together educators, leaders, and students from diverse backgrounds to share strategies and current practices that promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion within global educational settings.

We invite proposals for sessions that align with the conference's themes and objectives:

  • Different Together: Building inclusive campus communities
  • DEI and Student Success: Supporting diverse students' academic and personal growth
  • Global Perspectives on DEI: Moving beyond the American framework
  • Foundational DEI Topics: Key concepts, inclusive pedagogy, intercultural competency, implicit bias, and inclusive communications

Presentations may take one of the following formats:

  • Workshops (60 minutes): Interactive sessions focused on skill-building or practical strategies.
  • Panel Discussions (60 minutes): Engaging panel discussions with multiple speakers sharing perspectives on a common topic.
  • Individual Presentations (30 minutes): Focused presentations sharing research, case studies, or initiatives relevant to DEI.
  • Roundtable Discussions (30 minutes): Small group discussions aimed at fostering in-depth dialogue on specific topics.

Submit a Proposal

To submit a proposal, please complete the Proposal Submission Form by January 12, 2025.

Submissions should include:

  1. Session Title
  2. Session Format
  3. Presenter(s) Information: Full names, affiliations, and contact information
  4. Abstract (200-300 words): A summary of the session's content, objectives, and audience engagement strategies
  5. Learning Outcomes: List 2-3 takeaways or objectives for attendees

Proposals will be reviewed by the organizing committee, with notification of acceptance sent by February 10, 2025. Sessions will be selected based on relevance to conference themes, clarity of content, and engagement potential.
