VIPP recently welcomed a delegation from the Anhui province in China to MSU for a professional development workshop in the areas of financing, transportation planning, and accounting. The delegation consisted of professionals from the Anhui Traffic Holding Group Co. LTD, Jiaokong Capital Investment Management Co.LTD, Anlian and Wantong Highway Co.LTD, Highway Media Co.LTD, Xunjie Logistics Co. LTD, Anhui Transportation Planning and Design Research Institute Co. LTD, and the Highway Properties Co. LTD. The group participated in a week full of keynote lectures, professional meetings, field visits, and networking opportunities. They connected with many MSU faculty members and professionals in the field to discuss global challenges in financing transportation infrastructure.

MSU has enormous resources and expertise to share with transportation professionals and researchers around the world. Prof. Timothy Gates from the College of Engineering gave a keynote lecture on the U.S. transportation system in general including the historic development, the current state of the infrastructure, and future challenges. Prof. Jeff Cohu from the College of Business discussed modern business philosophy and principles of business reorganization with the delegation. He emphasized the role of constant innovation as the only way to strive as a company. The delegation also met Prof. Hao Jiang from the College of Finance who provided an overview of financial risk analysis, investment timing, and asset management.

The Chinese group enjoyed a few field trips to meet professionals outside campus. One field visit was to Dean Transportation. Patrick Dean, Chief Financial Officer and part of the Lansing-based, family-owned business Dean Transportation, provided a guided tour and helped the group understand challenges of a private business engaging in a public-private partnership. The group had the opportunity to ride in an American icon: the world-famous yellow school bus!

Another highlight was the meeting with seven professionals from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), including the Chief Administrative officer, Laura Mesters. This meeting of delegations was proven to be very beneficial for the visiting group from China, as the background of the American professionals was a diverse as their own backgrounds.

A field trip to the Lansing Capital Region Airport was another exciting event. CEO Wayne G. Sieloff presented the economic importance of the airport, and the impact it has on business development in the entire region. They did a wonderful job letting the delegation peek backstage, and understand the daily operations.

Another successful workshop like this demonstrates VIPP's ability to bring professionals from the transportation sector together with researchers, policy-makers, and professionals to exchange ideas and knowledge, and help them develop a long-lasting partnership. VIPP will be excited to host another group in transportation sector in the future.
