CLACS is preparing to submit a Title VI National Resource Center/Foreign Language and Area Studies (NRC/FLAS) proposal to the US Department of Education this semester. To be competitive, we must document the full extent of our institutional strengths in teaching, research, and outreach focused on Latin America and the Caribbean. We appreciate faculty responses to our requests for updates on publications, courses, grad students, etc. to help us document MSU's diverse activities and investments in the region!

If awarded, this grant would provide funds to:

  • strengthen undergraduate curriculum and academic programs in Latin American/Caribbean studies and languages;
  • augment teaching resources and library holdings;
  • enhance and expand outreach programing;
  • develop innovative undergraduate experiences that integrate language training, research, and experiential learning across colleges and professional schools
  • provide FLAS fellowships to undergraduate and graduate students to pursue language training and area studies coursework
