Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB) alumni dinner

During a two-week trip to China early spring, Dr. Xinyu Wu visited more than 10 VIPP partner universities and organizations in Beijing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, and enjoyed meeting many alumni. Here are just a couple of highlights.

Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB) is one of VIPP’s long term partners. More than 50 faculty have gone through the VIPP professional development program over the last 10 years. Many are department chairs, deans and center directors now across CUEB campus. It was exciting to meet group of alumni for dinner. Some were visiting scholars in VIPP as far back as 2010, but there were also familiar faces. Professor Yehu Zhai (Tiger) was an active member of the VIPP community in 2016, leading many social events during his time at MSU. He is a law professor in CUEB and a well know legal expert in the city. Everyone shared their fun stories about MSU, VIPP, Spartan Village and Michigan. The impact of a year visiting scholar’s experience is deep and long lasting for our alumni as well as VIPP.

VIPP alum and China Today's Spanish editor: Xiaofei Dang

During the visit in Beijing, Dr. Wu also visited China International Publishing Group to prepare for CIPG’s summer two-week executive workshop in the U.S. on Technology in Modern Publishing Industry. After the official meeting, VIPP alum, China Today’s Spanish editor, Xiaofei Dang showed Xinyu around, including CIPG’s museum and her own office. Xiaofei, among a group of six young CIPG journalists, spent one semester as visiting scholars in VIPP in 2017. Their video documenting their life in MSU was such a hit and really helped VIPP to communicate our program and our scholars’ experience through the eyes of the scholars.

It is always exciting to visit China and spend time with partners and alumni. This trip was extra special – when the two week trip came to an end, Xinyu also identified a new office space in downtown Beijing for MSU (https://china.isp.msu.edu/news_article/22009). The new office opened its door to MSU community and partners in March 2019. It serves as a home for Spartans in China and brings MSU and VIPP closer to our alumni and partners.
