Julie on a sunny day in FinlandCurrently, I am an MSW student with Michigan State University and in my second year of the two-year program for Statewide Blended Clinical Track. This summer, I started my internship at River House, which is a shelter for individuals who are facing domestic violence, and sexual assault. One of my passions within the field includes working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. At the time, I am also interested in someday working in Infant Mental Health (IMH) in some capacity. Over this past summer, I had the amazing opportunity to travel with other MSW students who also are passionate about social justice and traveling to Finland for education abroad to learn about International Policy and Social Service Delivery. It was such a phenomenal experience to travel with this group and such an honor! This once-in-lifetime opportunity allowed me to see things from a much broader perspective than I had previously looked at certain issues such as Maternity and Paternity Leave. I look forward to using my experiences abroad to be able to apply them back in the United States and advocate for change.
